Mr. Sullivan earned a BBA from Washburn University in Topeka, Kansas in 1982. He joined Peat Marwick Mitchell & Co. in Tulsa, Oklahoma, after graduating. After gaining several years experience as a practicing CPA, he joined the finance department of Volume Shoe Corporation (operator of Payless Shoesource retail stores), a division of May Department Stores.

In 1988, Mr. Sullivan joined the staff of the Topeka YMCA as Vice President of Finance. Mr. Sullivan later became Vice President of Operations with responsibility for managing the Downtown Topeka Branch. In March 1993, he moved to Seattle and became Chief Financial Officer of the Greater Seattle YMCA, followed in August 1996 by moving to Texas to become Senior VP and CFO of the YMCA of the Greater Houston Area. Six years later, in September 2002, he moved once again, to accept the position of CFO of the YMCA of San Diego County, one of the largest YMCAs in the world. Later he became EVP CFO and Operations, which included supervision of some branch operations and over $100 million in government contracts. Mr. Sullivan retired from the YMCA in October 2019.

Mr. Sullivan is a licensed CPA in the State of Texas. He is a member of the AICPA, and the Texas Society of CPA’s. He is a past member of the AICPA Not-for-Profit Organizations Expert Panel, and the AICPA Business & Industry Executive Committee. Mr. Sullivan is also a past member of the board of directors of the Armed Services YMCA of the USA, a past member of the Supervisory Committee of the University and State Employees (USE) Credit Union and past President of the Rancho Bernardo Sunrise Rotary Club.
